Kindred Grief and Bereavement Care

Walking alongside you through life’s hardest seasons — with wisdom, presence, and care.

Emma Walkinshaw is a senior clinical social worker with over a decade of experience in providing grief and bereavement care and counselling to children, adults and families.

Whether it’s a life altering diagnosis, the anticipated or actual death of a loved one, the end of a relationship, major life change or the loss of an animal companion, Emma will provide you with a safe space to explore and experience your grief, in all its complexity.

Emma recognises that grief is a profound and personal journey that needs to be felt, witnessed and gently tended to. Emma will help you to honour and make space for your grief, while helping you to navigate the painful reality of your loss.

Kindred is a sacred space, where your grief will not be rushed. Instead, it will be
met with deep listening, genuine compassion and a reverence for what has been lost.

“When your heart is broken, you plant seeds in the cracks and pray for rain.”

– Andrea Gibson

About Emma

Welcome, I’m Emma, an accredited social worker (BSW) with extensive clinical experience
in providing grief counselling and bereavement care to people experiencing all forms of loss.
I’ve created Kindred Grief and Bereavement Care as a safe space where we can have
honest conversations about life, love and loss. As a kindred griever, I bring my lived
experience of childhood sibling loss, including my intrinsic understanding of the enduring
nature of love, loss and grief.

Alongside Kindred, I currently provide grief and bereavement care, including end of life
support to parents, carers and children within a paediatric palliative healthcare
setting.

In supporting people at times of trauma and loss, I bring a professional skill set that includes
trauma informed care, Polyvagal Theory (PT), Somatic experiencing (SE), Compassionate
Enquiry (CE) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I recognise that grief is an
emotional, physical, social and spiritual wounding that requires a holistic approach to
healing.

Loss deepens your awareness of impermanence and your experience of the world. We will
work together not to ‘fix’ your grief, but to help you to; make space for it, honour it while you
seek to reimagine your life after loss.
We will also explore how grief settles into your body and will work together to introduce
somatic practices that will allow you to connect to the wisdom of your body for rest, renewal
and release.
